Bronze 'Stations of the Cross' created by Cambridge artist

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- On May 8, Bishop Walker Nickless of Sioux City, Iowa, dedicated a set of "Stations of the Cross" by Cambridge, Nebraska, artist Sondra L. Jonson, at Trinity Heights Shrine in Sioux City.

The project encompasses 14 bronze sculptures mounted on stainless steel plaques, with a laser-cut cross at the top of each set of Stations.

Jonson designed and created the 14 sculptures, with the bronze finish crafted by Icon Poly in Gibbon, Nebraska. The stainless steel backdrops and crosses were manufactured by Brehmer Manufacturing in Lyons,

Nebraska, and the steel surfaces were finished by Terry Hegarty, project manager and director of Trinity Heights.

Each Station, on a steel and concrete pedestal with the cross above, stands more than six feet tall.

The set lines the central pathway in Trinity Heights' "Outdoor Cathedral," leading to a veterans memorial and a 33-foot-high stainless steel sculpture of Christ by Dale Lamphere of South Dakota.

These Stations of the Cross are the fourth of Jonson's works to be permanently installed at Trinity Heights. Her life-size sculptures already at Trinity Heights are "Rachel Weeping for Her Children" and Sts. Peter and Paul.
