St. Katharine Drexel, 1858-1955, Beloved Saint
from Philadelphia.
This remarkable woman used all her considerable
fortune and all her energy to bring aid and education to America's
Native American and Afro American children. She was the foundress
of many schools across the U.S., including Xavier University.
She also founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, the order of
nuns that continue in her work today.
She was canonized in October of 2000.
