Cambridge Artist's Sculpture Wins National Award

CAMBRIDGE (SNR) — Cambridge artist Sondra Jonson's life-size bronze sculpture, “Rachel Weeping for Her Children,” which was commissioned by a chapter of the Nebraska Knights of Columbus and is a permanent installation at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine at St. Germanus Parish in Arapahoe, recently won Best of Show in Sculpture in the American Mothers, Inc. national art competition. “Rachel Weeping” has been displayed in six states and featured in many national publications, reaching people on the issues of respecting life and maternal bereavement.

American Mothers, Inc. (AMI) is a national organization based in Washington, D.C., and has been active in supporting programs that strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of family in America for more than 68 years.

The winning sculpture will be featured on the AMI website for one year, and all first place winners are awarded a cash prize.

Ardith Starostka of Columbus also won best of Show in oil painting. Mrs. Starostka is currently working on an artwork for Blessed Sacrament Parish in Lincoln.
