CAMBRIDGE (SNR) Cambridge artist Sondra
Jonson's life-size bronze sculpture, Rachel
Weeping for Her Children, which was commissioned by a chapter
of the Nebraska Knights of Columbus and is a permanent installation
at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine at St. Germanus Parish in Arapahoe,
recently won Best of Show in Sculpture in the American Mothers, Inc.
national art competition. Rachel Weeping has been displayed
in six states and featured in many national publications, reaching
people on the issues of respecting life and maternal bereavement.
American Mothers, Inc. (AMI) is a national
organization based in Washington, D.C., and has been active in supporting
programs that strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of family
in America for more than 68 years.
The winning sculpture will be featured on the
AMI website for one year, and all first place winners are awarded
a cash prize.
Ardith Starostka of Columbus also won best
of Show in oil painting. Mrs. Starostka is currently working on an
artwork for Blessed Sacrament Parish in Lincoln.
