CAMBRIDGE Cambridge artist Sondra Jonson's
life-size bronze sculpture, Rachel Weeping
for Her Children, recently won Best of Show in Sculpture
in the American Mothers, Inc. national art competition.
Each state holds an American Mothers art competition
in March and then sends winning entries to the national organization
for judging. The national winners will be announced at the American
Mothers National convention to take place in Puerto Rico, April 27-May
2 [2004].
American Mothers Inc. has been active for 68
years in knowledging the importance of mothers in American society.
The organization is an interfaith, non-political, non-profit group
dedicated to strengthening the moral and spiritual foundations of
family and home in America. In recent years, American Mothers, Inc.
has been active in teaching and mentoring mothers, reaching out to
abused, neglected or abandoned children and mothers, fighting pornography,
fighting child abuse, and recognizing accomplishments of children
and mothers in the United States. AMI is also the official sponsor
or Mothers Day and Mother of the Year.
Rachel Weeping, Ms. Jonson's winning
sculpture, will be featured on the American Mothers web site for one
year, and all first place winners are awarded a cash prize.
Another Nebraska woman, Ardith Starostka of
Columbus won first place in Oil Painting. Ms. Jonson's photograph,
Winter Homestead won second place in Photography at the
state exhibit in Lincoln, last March.
